28 Nov Mel Campbell Chairing Lycoming College Capital Campaign

Mel Campbell, founder and president of Campbell, Harrington & Brear Advertising Agency, is serving as chairman of the Lycoming College “Campaign for a Greater Lycoming.”

The campaign aims to raise $65 million by June 30, 2019, to, Mel says, “preserve and refine our excellent institution, improve our educational offering, and build the endowment to ensure the future of our college.”

Specifically, the campaign aims to create a 21st century liberal arts education by putting new resources toward signature programs in areas such as enhanced academic experiences, energy studies, the environment and entrepreneurship.

The announcement coincides with the launch of the campaign’s public phase. The private phase has already raised gifts totaling $47 million, making it the most successful campaign in the school’s long history.

Located in Williamsport, PA, Lycoming College is one of the 50 oldest colleges in the United States and is ranked by Princeton Review as one of the best Northeastern colleges in its “2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region” feature.

“It was a real honor to be appointed to head up this campaign,” Mel says. “Campaigns last a long time and there’s a lot of work involved for the wonderful staff I work with on the development side. They’re smart, capable, hard-working people who are very dedicated to the college, and, as a team, we’ve reached out to the alumni like never before. The alumni are responding because they believe in the college and, to me, that’s very gratifying.”

Mel, who graduated from Lycoming in 1970, has served on the college’s board of directors for 25 years and as president of the Lycoming College Alumni Association.

Campbell founded Campbell, Harrington & Brear in 1978.
